I see I'm too late to respond to the unblock request, but I'll offer a few observations anyway:
- The edits that reidweaver was making to Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome not only inserted a GeoCities link, but also removed a broken link (now fixed) to a Yahoo group, improved the formatting of mess of broken text (now removed), removed an e-mail address (also now removed), and removed a link to another support group.
- The Yahoo link, broken text and email address were inserted by 24.154.41.209 (talk · contribs) about 40 minutes before reidweaver's first edit.
- The welcome page for the Yahoo group inserted by the anon IP mentions "reidweaver".
- The GeoCities link contains "reidweaver" in the URL.
- Although the GeoCities site in question likely does not qualify as a reliable source, it seems informative and well-intentioned.
- The text of the VoABot warning above does not make it clear what part of the edit is objectionable, and is a rather confusing collection of possibilities.
I would therefore conclude that:
- This user, the anon IP, the moderator of the Yahoo group, and the maintainer of the GeoCities site are all the same person.
- This user was making a good faith attempt to insert support group information.
- This user was unable to determine from the warning messages what the problem with his edits was.
I am inclined to unblock this user, and will raise the matter for discussion. In the meantime, the user is recommended to read WP:EL, WP:COI and WP:SPAM. Bovlb (talk) 07:32, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
I've had no response from the blocking admin, and I have an acquiescence from the admin who declined the unblock request, so I'm going to unblock. Please follow our policies on external links and conflict of interest carefully. I you are determined so see your site linked here, you may want to propose your website on the talk page of the article, explaining why it meets policy, or discuss it here. On no account should you keep making the same change again and again if you find yourself reverted, or you will find yourself blocked again. Oh, and here's a more friendly welcome ...

I appreciate your help. I am Reidweaver and the link to the website is a web version of a brochure I wrote for the National Osteonecrosis Foundation (part of Johns Hopkins University) and it was published by the foundation after being reviewed by doctors, to give to parents at the point of diagnosis of Legg Perthes disease. The link for the support group needed correcting as well. Thanks you so much for rectifying all this. I thought the reason my edits were reverting was because I was making an error that I could not figure out. So I kept trying to make changes to see if that corrected the situation. I had no idea it was being perceived as vandalism. My faith in Wikipedia is restored. Much abliged.
