Option 1
Using wikis to organize our topics/provide a discussion platform for creating a separate "embodiment" of our projects
Option 2
Editing Wikipedia directly in an attempt to address our own areas of interest (somewhat analytically, perhaps) while in the process performing aspects of digital culture, i.e. interactivity, interconnectivity, etc

Web Garden

This idea is arboreal --AdamFJohnson 00:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I like this idea because I can think of ways to make it coherant and still pretty. Even with Alex running around.--Diane 8:27, 27 March 2007

[edit] Project Discussion

General

This is a great idea if we all sign up for wikipedia accounts and learn the wiki-editing language, which is really quite simple. Also note that we don't need to ride wikipedia for this, as their software/web2.0-ness is open source. We could host it all on remus or whatever server. --AdamFJohnson 00:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I´m down with starting hosting on other site. Wikipedia was just the easiest start-up that came to mind. anyone know how to get us started on remus?--Michelledt 01:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I know
It occurs to me that there is an easier startup. But what would we really need with a class myspace? Isn't the fact that we have a Second Life character taking it far enough? ^_^ Our class is rapidly becoming something of an entity on the web, just in terms of it being represented as a whole rather than as a collection of people.--Diane 8:33, 27 March 2007

Rhizomatic vs. Arboreal Structure

are arboral structure "bad," or at least out of favor? I often have the impression that we assume that rhizomes are somehow superior, more sophisticated "structures," but I wonder why. Is it because we associate them with digital-ness? Is a "digital culture" inherently rhizomic?--Michelledt 01:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think they're out of favor, in fact, I think they're just a popular and understandable as they ever were. I just think we have come to understand that the rhizome is a better way to describe the interactivity, tangentiality, hyper/meta textuality, extension, etc of the internet and digital technology. Though, remember, digital binary is actually arboreal in the sense that it relies on either/or and on/off to direct itself.--AdamFJohnson 03:09, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reidi (Second Life avatar)

Reidi Merlin

Reidi Merlin as of April 2, 2007
First game Second Life
Created by Adam Johnson
Designed by shadowcat2012 (credit for various parts goes to their designers)

"What is interesting about Second Life? Can you become a book?" -Heidi

The avatar Reidi Merlin was created for the purpose of exploring the world of Second Life and to provide the class with a means of gaining firsthand observation and experience with the growing culture of the SL community. Her adventures have led to discoveries of online sororities, helpful users who pose as hobos, and learning just how much detail goes into the construction of each and every single item within SL, everything from the trees to the neighborhoods to individual avatar personas.
