The Reisterstown Plaza Metro Subway Station is one of 14 stops along the Baltimore Metro Subway line, located in Baltimore, Maryland, near the intersection of Patterson and Wabash Avenues. It is the fourth most northern and western station on the line, with approximately 700 parking spaces[1]. It is within a close walk of the Reisterstown Road Plaza, for which it is named. It is also near the northwest division of the Maryland Transit Administration where buses are stored.
Three buses currently serve this station: bus nos. 27, 59, and M-10. Route 27 operates to north-central, downtown, and South Baltimore. Route 59 operates along Reisterstown Road to Owings Mills, and Route M-10 operates to various communities in northwest Baltimore, Mt. Washington, Greenspring Station, and Villa Julie College.
Prior to 1987, when the Metro was extended to Owings Mills, the Reisterstown Plaza station was the final stop on the line in the northwestern direction.
In 1993, the Reisterstown Plaza station started to close early at 8 PM in order to save costs, and buses were extended to the Rogers Avenue station at the time. This caused inconvenience for Reisterstown Road Plaza employees who got off work later. Within a few years, this early closure was abolished, and the station started to remain open until midnight again.
[edit] Reisterstown Road Plaza
The Reisterstown Road Plaza, more recently known simply as "The Plaza," is a shopping center and mall located near the Reisterstown Plaza Metro Subway Station from which the station derives its name. Originally built as an indoor mall, in recent years, much of its structure has been converted into an outdoor shopping center with big box stores.
Previous anchors at the Reisterstown Road Plaza were the now defunct chains of Stewart's, Caldor, Zayre, Ames, Hechinger, and Hecht's. Some of the current anchors include Burlington Coat Factory, Home Depot, National Wholesale Liquidators, Modell's, and Giant Food. Other stores and restaurants include Shoe City, Economy Shoes, Foot Locker, Lot Stores, Popeyes, Applebee's, Panda Express, KFC, Long John Silvers, and Checkers
The Plaza also houses a satellite campus of Baltimore City Community College and the office of vital records for the state of Maryland.
