Reinhard Flatischler is the creator of the TaKeTiNa Rhythm Process. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1950, Flatischler studied piano under Professor Bruno Seidelhofer and earned his concert diploma from the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. He then embarked on more than 15 years of continuous drum studies with master drummers in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Flatischler is the founder and composer of the group MegaDrums, a world music group that includes Airto Moreira, Zakir Hussain, Glen Velez, Leonard Eto (also of the taiko group, Kodo), Milton Cardona, Steven Kent and others. Flatischler’s 1992 book, The Forgotten Power of Rhythm, is considered a standard work in music literature; his latest book plus interactive DVD, Rhythm for Evolution, won the Comenius Education Media Award for 2007.
Flatischler, a member of a scientific committee of the International Society for Music in Medicine, organized the Rhythm and Pain Therapy project as part of the German Pain Colloquium.
Reinhard Flatischler, together with his wife, Cornelia Flatischler, has trained and certified more than 180 TaKeTiNa teachers in Europe, South Africa, Australia, and the United States in leading the TaKeTiNa process. TaKeTiNa Rhythm teachers work worldwide in universities, music conservatories, hospitals, prisons, rehabilitation centers, psychotherapy practices, dance and drama troupes, and in open workshops.
