Reinaldo Apolo Gargano Ostuni (born Paysandú, 26 July 1934) is a Uruguayan political figure.

Gargano went into exile in Spain in 1974 following a coup d'état, but returned several years later.
[edit] Foreign Minister of Uruguay and other political roles
He served as the Foreign Minister of Uruguay[1] from March 2005 until March 2008. He has been President of the Socialist Party of Uruguay (PSU) since 2001, and a member of the Uruguayan Senate since 1984.[citation needed]
He served as the Secretary-General of the PSU for 16 years. He became a member of the cabinet of President Tabaré Vázquez when he took office in 2005.[citation needed]
On 1 November 2004 Gargano said, "Our people will warmly welcome the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Cuba."[2]
As Foreign Affairs Minister in the first government of the Frente Amplio Garagno favored a stronger integration of Uruguay in the Mercosur, and opposed any free trade agreement with the US on ideological grounds. Garagano also promoted the close alignment of Uruguay with Hugo Chaves and his anti-American “Movimiento Bolivariano” league of nations which include Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Ecuador.

He resigned in March 2008. He was succeeded as Foreign Minister by Gonzalo Fernández.
