Reid School is a private non-denominational school including elementary and junior high in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Reid School started in 1987 as a private elementary school. It originally started with a school age from preschool to 3rd grade.

Today the school has grown to include students in the 9th grade. The school also includes two preschool classes. The students are divided into small class sizes. The average class size is about twenty students in the elementary school. The preschool classes are about 8 students. <<www.[1]

The school is made up of two separate buildings. The buildings have several classrooms, lunch room, basketball court,science lab, computer labs, auditorum, and a broadcasting place. tall.[2]

[edit] Founding of the School

Reid School was founded in 1987 and is operated by Mervin and Ethna Reid. Ethna Reid received a Ph.D. in education. The ECRI (Exemplary Curriculum for Reading Instruction) program was started in 1978 by Ethna Reid. She started and now helps teach ECRI throughout the United States.[3] Reid School is a traditional year-round school starting after Labor Day and ending the Friday before Memorial Weekend. The school also has the traditional breaks, including a one week spring break. The school has approxiamtely one hundred and eighty school days. Mervin and Ethna Reid bought the East Millcreek Elementary School in 1987. The school serves students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Students have the option to stay their 9th grade year. The school also serves a preschool. The preschool now has a total of fifty students and is broken up into two different preschools. The preschool is now broken up into two separate preschools. The school class sizes average twenty students per class. Reid School serves approximately two hundred students.

The school schedule starts with reading in the morning. There is Math, Science, Social Studies, P.E., Music, Spanish, Journalism and Broadcasting. The school also produces a yearly Utah Shakespearean Festival. The school has produced this play over the years with the help of Dr. Nelson. The school has produced the plays of Hamlet, Mcbeth, Twelveth Night, and a Midsummers Nights Dream. Reid School is a school which places students according to their abilities. This has led to different groups of students being in different grades. The school tests the students regularly to see if they are improving in their performance. Students are able to master key concepts such as reading, writing, math and science. Students are tested according to their learning abilities. Students are able to go according to the students pace.[4] The school also has trips abroad, which help with their understanding of different cultures. These trips include Mexico,United Kingdom,Western Europe and Washington D.C..[5] The school is planning future trips to help enrich students lives. Future trips include Costa Rica and Japan.

The ECRI program focuses on the students comprehension and understanding of the reading material. Students are tested on their reading and math skills.The school also places students in the math classes according to the students level of math. The reid school also includes the students in social studies, science, math, reading, Spanish, music, gym, journalism and broadcasting. [6] The school has small class sizes. The average classroom size is twenty students to every teacher.[7]

Reid School is a fairly new school. The average students have just graduated or are continuing to graduate from colleges Some of the students who have attended the school include the Huntsman, Eccles and the Dibb family. The mother is Ann Dibb daughter of President Monson the current president of the LDS Church. The school was formerly known as East Millcreek Elementary. The school did have the Hinckley family in the area. One of the students who attended the East Millcreek Elementary school was Richard G. Hinckley.
