Regulus was a very good racehorse—being undefeated—and won 8 royal plates in 1745. At stud, he produced Royal (1749), South (b. 1750), Fearnought (1755), who was sold to the United States, Star, Cato, Juba, Ascha,. Grisewood's Lady Thigh, Miss Belsea, and many important broodmares, including the dam of Eclipse. His popularity led him to be Leading Sire for 8 years (1754-1757, 1761, 1763, and 1765-1766). He died at age 26.
