Regis Blackgaard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Regis Blackgaard, often referenced with his proper title as Dr. Regis Blackgaard, is the perennial villain of the Christian-themed radio drama/comedy Adventures in Odyssey; he is voiced by Earl Boen (who also voices Regis Blackgaard's identical-twin brother Edwin Blackgaard). The name "Blackgaard" is clearly intended to convey the same meaning as the word "blackguard".

Dr. Blackgaard appears only in some of the episodes forming part of the Blackgaard saga, which traces his villainy through the AIO series. Indeed, although he is one of the most recognized characters in the series, he appears in only seventeen episodes (though the series has produced nearly 620 episodes to date).

Dr. Regis Blackgaard was last seen in Odyssey when he killed himself by purposely succumbing to a tunnel explosion of his own doing. His death was confirmed in the episodes #334: "The Final Conflict" and #342: "Welcome Home, Mr. Blackgaard!". However, Blackgaard's death is a cause of heated debate among many Odyssey fans, as there are some who refuse to believe that he is dead and demand his return to the series. Meanwhile others are relieved by Blackgaard's death, claiming the character limited the audio drama, or are just tired of the character's constant returns to Odyssey.

Blackgaard's last appearance was in the finale of the Blackgaard saga in the two-part episode #424-425: "Blackgaard's Revenge". Blackgaard planted a virus in the Imagination Station, which would cause a character with Blackgaard's memory and personality to appear in the Station's programs. The Blackgaard virus attempted to implant Blackgaard's personality onto the brain of a young girl, effectly giving him a "new life". However, the virus was destroyed by Mr. Whittaker.
