In Ontario, Regional Chairs (District Chair in Muskoka District; Warden in Oxford County) chair the council for the province's regional municipalities. As head of council, they also act as chief executive officer of the municipal corporation, as legislated by section 225 of the Ontario Municipal Act. The chair has been elected in Waterloo Region since 1997 and in Halton Region since 2000, and is appointed by elected councillors in other regional municipalities.
