Regina Doman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Regina Doman (born 1970 in Havertown, Pennsylvania) is the author of a series of young adult novels, beginning with The Shadow of the Bear (originally known as Snow White and Rose Red: A Modern Fairy Tale), and continuing with the sequel, Black as Night. A third book, Waking Rose, continued the series, published in 2007. She is a graduate of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, and lives in Front Royal, Virginia with her family.
From 1995-1996, she served as an assistant editor for the offbeat Catholic countercultural journal Caelum Et Terra. In 2000, she launched a website [1] to archive the articles of the late journal and to provide a catalyst for the further development of the journal's ideas on the web.
She is also the author of the children's picture book, Angel in the Waters. A Spanish edition was published in 2006.
Together with her husband, Regina Doman founded Chesterton Productions, whose subdivision Chesterton Press will be publishing her third book. They also released an audio drama of her first book in 2006.
Ms. Doman has written on the subject of creating what she terms "Catholic genre fiction," a Catholic version of Christian fiction, most recently in her article "The Catholic Fiction Problem is a Marketing Problem" which can be found under the "Articles" section on her website. In an attempt to open up the market, she is series editor for the John Paul 2 High series, a series of novels about the adventures of Catholic teens at a new private high school, which is currently in development.
Of her other articles, two which continue to generate interest are her eulogy on Christian singer Rich Mullins which asserts that the singer died days before he was to be received into the Catholic Church, based on an interview with a priest who was instructing him; and an article on Harry Potter, "Harry Potter for Catholics?" which takes issue with Pope Benedict XVI's alleged condemnation of the books and provides a Christian apologetic in defense of them.
