[edit] History
Regent College was established in February 1982 as a Christian School for children of parents attending Rhema Family Church, now Riverview Church. It was later opened up to the broader community, adding to the diversity of the school. The current premises were occupied in 1986 and purchased in 1988. The founder of the school was Graham Irvine.
Regent College is a member of the Association of Independent Schools of WA, the Combined Christian Schools Association and Christian Schools Australia.
Regent is part of the Riverview Group which provides the school with infrastructural support, including accounting and information technology. Each year the Group appoints a school Board of Management, responsible for developing the school's philosophies, policies and making detailed plans to fulfil the school's vision. Whilst the Board appoints the school's senior staff, the Principal appoints teachers and ancillary staff.
A parent group, Parents & Friends, provides additional financial support and oversees school maintenance projects as well as arranging social activities.
[edit] Programmes
Regent College offers a wide range of specialist programmes both in the classroom and as optional extra-curricular activities.
Music & Dance From Pre-primary to year 4, each class has 2 music lessons a week with a music specialist. These classes cover music appreciation, music notation, rhythm, percussion and learning the recorder. Students can also join the school choir, which performs on occasions throughout the year. Students are also able to participate in modern dance classes after school hours and perform at various functions throughout the year.
Information Technology Regent College is well resourced to produce an excellent level of competency in information technology for its students. Every student has ready access to computers through our lab and the classroom network. By the time students have completed year 7 they have a good working knowledge of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics and using the Internet.
Character and Values This is a programme used across all year groups to assist children to learn and develop a wide range of character traits. Virtues such as honesty, self-control and responsibility, are highlighted throughout the year so that the children have the opportunity to understand these as essential ingredients to their character. Students learn to then practice these traits with the guidance and leadership from their teachers.
Public Speaking Each year students in years 1-7 participate in a public speaking programme. Students write and present a talk to their class on a topic of their choice. Selected year 7 students have the opportunity to compete in the 'Speak Up' Awards programme run throughout the metropolitan region.
Fitness/Sport The Year 5, 6 and 7 classes participate in sports classes each week conducted by a specialist sports teacher. The aim is to develop fundamental sporting skills and give the children exposure to a range of sporting activities.
After School Care This is available to all regent College students and is held from 3.00pm to 6.00pm each school day. The programme is run by a qualified child-carer and students are able to complete homework, play on computers or outdoor games or watch videos.
