Reg Vermue

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reg Vermue (b. ? Trenton, Ontario), who records as Gentleman Reg, is a Canadian indie rock singer-songwriter. His folk-pop style has been compared to Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann and The Smiths.

Members of Royal City and The Constantines have regularly appeared as Vermue's supporting band, live and on his solo recordings; Vermue was also a member of The Hidden Cameras for several years and has performed with Broken Social Scene, sung backup for Sufjan Stevens, and often guests with Final Fantasy . He has released three CDs in Canada and appeared on the tribute CD for The Breeders, Hellbound along with other Breeders fans such as Three Dollar Bill, performing the song "Doe".

Songs by Gentleman Reg have appeared in such films as Shortbus, Wilby Wonderful, Twist, The End of Silence and 19 Months, and on the television show Queer as Folk.

Vermue, who is openly gay,[1] appears in a cameo role in the 2006 John Cameron Mitchell film Shortbus. In it, his character claims to be an albino. Vermue is, in fact, not an albino.[2] Songs by Gentleman Reg are featured on the soundtrack of the film.

He and drummer/percussionist Greg Millson are currently working on their fourth album. The album will feature contributions from Bry Webb of the Constantines, Katie Sketch of the now-defunct band The Organ, and Land of Talk's Elizabeth Powell.[3]
