- From the SOS article: The first ship to transmit an SOS distress call appears to have been the Cunard liner Slavonia on 10 June 1909, according to "Notable Achievements of Wireless" in the September, 1910 Modern Electrics. Lanfear's Bane 10:52, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] title of christmas cd
There was a Christmas compilation cd out last year that had 2000 miles by the Pretenders and a song by REM among others. Does anyone know the name of the cd? Thanks 203.221.127.158 15:19, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Cursory searches have not found anything, but the Pretenders song is called "I'm gonna be (500 miles)".SaundersW 19:31, 1 October 2007 (UTC) Sorry, the Proclaimers song is 500 miles. Let me atone by saying that there is a double CD named "Chick Flicks" which came out this January and had 2000 miles and an REM track (At my most beautiful). The link is to New Zealand.SaundersW 19:35, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Here is the All Music Guide's list of albums that contain the Pretenders' performing 2000 Miles. I think I checked all the Christmas ones and I didn't find any REM tracks. There also seem to be other Christmas albums with the song performed by somebody else; that research is left as an exercise for the reader. --LarryMac | Talk 19:50, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- I can get into the link, so in just case the original questioner can't, the REM song was Be Mine, from the New Adventures in Hi-Fi album. On the Christmas album in question, it's the 18th track of 20. The Pretenders song is the 15th. Hassocks5489 21:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Like.......WOW....thanks heaps to everyone who went to so much trouble. I've got to rush off right now, but I'll get back, copy this info, and get searching. I'm pretty sure it must be the Warner release. It was definitely the Pretenders and REM doing their own songs. Yes, I'm downunder, thanks for being astute there Larry. 203.221.126.48 04:54, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Who sings "Georgia on my mind" with Django Reinhardt?
Can someone please tell me who is the lead singer in Django's version of "Georgia on my mind"? He also sings on other songs performed by the Hot Club.
Thanks, Gil_mo 17:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Based on this page and this page, I'm going to guess it was Freddy Taylor. We don't seem to have an article for him, but here is a page at answers.com (I'd have linked directly to AllMusic, but it's blocked from this computer). --LarryMac | Talk 17:46, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you! that pretty much stops my hunt :) Gil_mo 07:03, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
