[edit] Gibson or Jibson?

My friend has a habit of pronouncing the name of Actor/Director Mel Gibson Mel Jibson. She says that her Australian friends laugh if she says Gibson. Which is correct, a hard or a soft G? Crisco 1492 06:49, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Hard, always and everywhere hard. -- JackofOz 10:08, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I'd show her myself if I had access to another native English speaker, but I haven't spoken to one since .... wow April. Almost headed home though. Crisco 1492 16:12, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Send her here for English (and other language) pronunciations (type in any words and it will say them for you): [1]. StuRat 05:27, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Maybe they were laughing at Gibson and his recent antics, not the pronunciation. Clarityfiend 05:40, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Cool site... as for the Gibson vs. Jibson thing, she's not the only Indonesian I've heard pronounce it incorrectly... sad how simple names can be butchered... I've spelled my own name for a waitress and she then asked: Apakah ada T di belangkan? (Is there a T at the end?) I've had my name changed by a clerk at the train station who thought that I left out a T... bites... sorry, just a personal pet peeve.Crisco 1492 15:48, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Because we don't know your name (and don't need to know it, :-)), how hard it bites is difficult to determine. Criscot? Tricot? Bielle 02:56, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Crisco's userpage leads me to belive that his first name is Chris. I myself would not want to have people spelling my name "Christ". - AMP'd 16:44, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Correct. Crisco 1492 05:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's that song?

I have a snippet from a contemporary rock song in my head, but I can't find the name of the song. The line (sung by a growly male vocalist) is "I'll fade away", then a violin (or multiple violins?) comes in for a few seconds. --zenohockey 20:45, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps you are thinking of I Stay Away, on Alice in Chains' 1994 EP Jar of Flies. 161.222.160.8 23:11, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I was! Thanks. --zenohockey 04:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
