Template talk:Ref-list

[edit] Is this necessary?

I created this template because there seems to be ambiguity in terms of how references should be listed at the bottom of a page. I've seen them called "Notes," "References," "More information," etc. I've also seen varying font sizes. I feel that by keeping everything in a template such as this, it will lead to a standardized format of displaying reference information. --Rodzilla 14:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Protection

If this page is to exist, it should be protected. More than once, someone has edited it by accident when attempting to edit a different page. --HeroicJay 22:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

And it's happened twice more since I posted this yesterday. --HeroicJay 07:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed merge

Both templates are practically identical, no reason to have both. -Amarkov blahedits 19:41, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

I am switching merge proposal to Reflist. Please discuss here or on my talk page if you object. --Anthony5429 17:59, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merge to reflist?

For what it's worth, there's a bit of discussion at Template talk:reflist about merging this and {{reference}} over to that template... This template previously had ~6 backlinks, I believe, and {{reflist}} has 2000+ backlinks now. And Anthony5429 has since changed the articles to use {{reflist}} instead of this. The templates are slightly different ({{reflist}} doesn't include the section header), but I don't know that we need multiple versions of the template when one is overwhelmingly used more than the other. --Interiot 10:39, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Vote to have Ref-list merged with Reflist...
Merge - With the advent of Reflist, I see no reason for Ref-list. --Anthony5429 13:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Merge, but with ref-list being the dominant template. Since it's not a protected template, users are substituting for text and therefore there aren't a lot of back links. I do think this one is the most user friendly template of the three. --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:03, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

It seems this merge proposal was crippled because the other page didn't get a merge template put up there. I have corrected this and in the interest of coherent discussion I designated Template talk:Reflist as the page for discussion of the merge. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:12, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
