Talk:References in On the Road

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Move those references

Shouldn't all the references to Jack Kerouac listed at the bottom of the page be on the 'Jack Kerouac' page instead of the 'On the Road' page? They arent specific references to On the Road, but to Jack himself. I can do it if noone else jumps in, but its a big change so I wanted to get some feedback. Whoever drew this map had better go back and re-read the book; Sal's account has him going through Nebraska (Sheldon, North Platte, and Ogallala are all mentioned, among other NE cities), not South Dakota. Come to think of it, they'd better take another look at a map too; Sal goes south from Cheyenne to Denver, not from Casper.69.145.179.125 07:58, 1 February 2007 (UTC)whc03grady

[edit] The travel map in this article is very incorrect

The most serious mistake is the above-mentioned omission of Kerouac's travels through Nebraska, both in 1947 and later on with Dean. The 1947 trip included rather major episodes in Shelton, North Platte, and other points in Nebraska.

The route through Mexico is incorrect, and they crossed at Laredo, which is farther east than the route shown. Really, the inaccuracies in the map as a whole adds confusion rather than clarity to the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.241.162.153 (talk) 05:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC).

In addition, the itineraries are incorrect in various ways. For example, there actually is an El Limon, Mexico on the route taken on the 1950 trip.

Literary references also include Hemingway - Roland Major quotes from Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises in Part 1 Chapter 9, Sal commenting 'Straight out of Hemingway, it was'. In Part 1 Chapter 10 Major comments that Green Hills Of Africa is 'Hemingway's best'

Dean, one of the MAIN CHARACTERS, is missing from the character key, could someone correct this?Love, elle (talk) 06:26, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I added him, although I don't know what page number he first appears on. Tomdobb (talk) 12:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
