Reed (Company)

Reed is a family-owned and run group of companies that places people into temporary and permanent employment across a number of disciplines, including accountancy, administration, computing, education, engineering, and insurance. The company was founded in 1960 by Professor Alec Reed CBE, FCMA, FCIM, FIPD and is currently chaired by his son, James Reed.
Reed also offers training and HR consultancy services and was the first private company to deliver the UK Labour Government’s New Deal, welfare-to-work programme.
The company’s website, reed.co.uk, has become one of Europe's largest job sites since being established in 1995, with over 280,000 jobs posted on it. (20 August 2006)

Works with the Government, employers and key partner organisations to provide recruitment, people development and business support services at various locations throughout the UK. Since 1998, when it was the first private company to deliver part of the UK Government's New Deal programme, Reed in Partnership has helped over 76,000 people make the transition from welfare to work. Reed in Partnership is an Employment Zone.

Since its opening, Reed has had a commitment to social initiatives and charitable concerns. Alec Reed ensured that an ethos of involvement in charitable and social initiatives has been integral to the company's mission and aims.

The Reed Foundation is a charitable foundation set up by Alec Reed. Funds go towards supporting charitable projects and one-off donations. One such donation saw Reed giving one million Rand to the Nelson Mandela Foundation to support education in South Africa.
Ethiopiaid, founded in 1989, is a charity that works in partnership with projects in Ethiopia to relieve poverty and sickness, to preserve and protect health and to advance education amongst Ethiopians who are in need.
Women at Risk works in partnerships with projects all over the world to help bring an end to the suffering of women.
Reed has an established Give As You Earn scheme allowing employees to give to charities of their choice in a tax efficient manner. The scheme is one of the most successful in the UK and Reed was highly commended in the National Pay Awards.

The Academy of Enterprise is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to promote the teaching of enterprise throughout the UK.
The West London Academy in Ealing, UK is a 4-18 Academy which has a sports and enterprise specialism. The specialism will mean that the pupils will be more responsible and entrepreneurial and that enterprise will underpin much of the curriculum.

Reed was the first recruitment specialist to become a Gold Member of the Employers’ Forum on Disability (estd. 1986), recognised as the authoritative voice on disability as it affects employers and service providers.
Reed works in partnership with TimeBank, an organisation that raises awareness of the value of giving time and skills back to the local community. Reed has conducted surveys of employers and employees to examine how giving time can enhance career prospects and employability, and both Reed branches and reed.co.uk have supported Timebank by giving out information on the scheme and how to volunteer.
In partnership with the Institute for Public Policy Research, Reed has established the Racial Equality and Diversity Task Force: Private Sector.
