The BMHS Drama Department

Hello!

I Created this article and I saw that you commented on it. I was wondering why was it deleted. (I'm not fussing or anything...)I feel that the article would not be advertising and it would be nutral. The school's drama department has achived alot and many of the community members wanted to learn about the history of the department. Thanks for the information. When I looked at the guidelines for notabliity, I think that the article on the Drama Department would fit it. So should i write the article outside of wikipedia then post it in the sandbox to see if it would be a good fit? Ethnic and religious slurs

Sorry, I had intended to create (rename, actually) a category not an article. The category would not qualify for speedy deletion although such an article might. I am moving the appropriate text to the new category name. I don't have any objection, at this time, to the inadvertantly created article being deleted. Speedy of Cemusa

Err... no offense, but did you even read the article before you tagged it for a speedy deletion? The timestamp shows the tag being placed the same minute the article was created! As I wrote, the company has contracts for advertising in many major Metropolitan areas and supplies prominent bus shelters, kiosks and public toilets on many street corners worldwide. It has been the subject of various articles from secondary, reliable sources, including the New York Times (which I have cited), which makes notable as per WP:CORP. --Jtalledo (talk) 15:38, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't see how the article asserts that it's notable because it expanded into North America. It would include more information about its operations overseas if there was substantial information about its business elsewhere. If that's the grievance, then the article should be tagged with {{globalize}} or {{expand}}. At worst, you could stick an {{importance}} tag on it. There should be little doubt about its notability - it clearly meets the primary requirements of WP:CORP, with no less than three New York Times articles written about it. Deleting Destinations Articles

Sorry if I did something excessive. I was trying to Wikify it by making it comperable to other airlines' destination lists. I don't see why this one should be considered different than something like United Airlines destinations or United Express destinations.

An alternate home for non-notable biographies?

Hi Redfarmer, as a relative newcomer to Wikipedia, I've been lurking in the AfD area for a little while, and I see that you're quite active in it. As an experienced Wikipedian, I wanted to solicit your advice on a topic that I've become quite fascinated with lately, namely the deletion of non-notable biographies. I understand why, for legal and aesthetic reasons, the Wikipedia community is so vehement about deleting non-notable people; but at the same time I can also understand why non-famous people might want to have a Wikipedia type page for themselves. This led me to wonder if there might not be a way to meet that demand. A possible solution might be to move such bios to a different wiki set up expressly for that purpose. The Island of Lost and Unloved BLP Articles, as it were. To cut to the chase, I set up just such a wiki and put myself and some friends on it, as a kind of test. I also recently moved over a bio that you nominated for deletion, Larry Cutrone, to demonstrated what I'm talking about. If you'd like to see it, you can go to:

Redfarmer, thanks very much for your input. I hadn't heard of the Seigenthaler case, and it certainly is a cautionary tale. A potential defense against this kind of problem might be to urge users to set up their accounts so that they'll be notified in the event of any edit. Of course with any wiki, the million-dollar question is how the thing is going to work in practice -- will the useful contributions of the helpful majority outweigh the spam and vandalism of the few? Will people embrace it or ignore it? I feel that there is a perceived need for such a thing, as evidenced by the fact that non-notable biographies keep getting put up on Wikipedia and then having to be taken down. So I thought I might just proceed, and see if the site blows up in my face or evolves into something useful. In the near term, I thought I'd transwiki articles from Wikipedia: Deletion today and see how people respond to this (or not). I only just started this yesterday but have done it with Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Stephen_H._Webb and Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/James_Patrick_Dunne. So if you see this sort of tag from me and feel like I should be doing it differently, or have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again for your help. Fair enough. This is actually the first time I've seen Twinkle malfunction this way (it shouldn't be creating articles?). I'd like to suggest that the rationales given for speedy deletion only questionably apply, that is why I PRODed it. Minor characters in CSI: NY

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Minor characters in CSI: NY, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. GA review of Degrassi: The Next Generation

Hi. I see you recently reviewed the article Degrassi: The Next Generation. While I didn't put the article up for a review, I was the one who wrote the majority of the article as it is today. I'm going through your suggestions you left on the talk page, and was hoping you could clarify/help on some of the points you left.

  • The itallicising/non-itallicising of the word "Degrassi": The folks over at Wikiproject Star Trek decided not to itallicise "Star Trek" when referring to the franchise, and only itallicise the series within the franchise, which is why I followed that way of thinking. You pointed me to WP:MOSTITLE#Italics, but that has no mention of what to do with a media franchise. Is there anywhere else where this is clarified at all?
  • You said you didn't like the way the information regarding the main cast was presented, and perhaps better in a box, however, ensemble show Lost, which is a FA, presents its character section in a similar fashion. So I'm not so sure what the best thing to do about this is, especially as this is just a preferencial thing. To be honest, I'm not fussed either way, as long as it's presented in the best possible way. Is there a box on another article you've seen which I could use as a reference point?
  • You also suggested a table for first-run broadcast information.. Again, is there a table you've seen which would work for this, too?
  • Regarding the section about syndication, you wrote "The 'Syndicated repeats in the United States' section is confusing... This section needs a major rewrite. I don't see that the article would need to list the times episodes air on each station. Perhaps just state which stations air episodes and simply that they don't all air at the same time. Thinking about it, I'm not even convinced you actually need the names of the stations that air it in there at all." Again, I'm not sure then, what information would be best left in. Obviously a table of each broadcaster would be rediculously long and unwanted, so would it be better just to end it after the first paragraph and include it somehow into the "First run" information, and change the name of that section?
  • Finally, you said "There's not much here about how the actors were originally cast. Yes, they used child actors, but how did they pick who they picked?" If this information is simply not readily available, what can I do to address this?

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm sure Morgan's family would be glad to hear of any "well-wishers" at this point of her development. In regards to her article, I was asked to spearhead getting her added to the wikipedia database and I have to admit that I'm new the all the proper doctrines. I would ask that you reconsider you deletion recommendation based on the following: (1)because of my inexperience, I am late adding the additional documentation that supports her notoriety status. (2) while she has not recieved world-wide notoriety outside the tennis community like another prodigy named Jan Silva, she is just as widely regarded in the tennis community because of her talent (e.g. playing style:left-handed, stats: 60 mph serve, size: almost 5 feet tall and 70 lbs at 6 years of age, and documented wins over ranked players in 10 and under divisions). (3) The Atlanta market had the largest organized tennis association (ALTA) in the country and there are numberous players that could have been covered by 11Alive. Her story ran for a record 15 weeks and was widely celebrated through the city. All of this legitimized her as a top prospect. The USTA is preparing a comment regarding her status that will endorse her, but politically will not take away from any of thier other prospects.

It is taking me some time to get all of this on the site and quite frankly, I don't know how much to put out there because Jan Silva's page had so little. That being said, I asking if you would give me some recommendations on what I can say to justify her article being legitmized. I've seen several of your entries so I respect your jugement and I really believe this young lady who is a straight A student, from a financially challenged background, and a family that left everything they know because of their belief in her talent. CSI:NY Articles

No worries, to be honest I was worried about toe-stepping and avoiding an edit war but it seems that you and I, as well as Yama..... all have the same goals in mind. We want good, clean articles. I can understand your frustration about not wanting to do it yourself, I've felt the same on the Japan project where there are a lot of poeple saying they want to help but, when push comes to shove, few people doing anything. I think if we divide and conquer, we could get some very good articles. I don't know about them being the caliber of Gil Grissom because there doesn't seem to be that much out there re: NY characters, but I think we can improve and have some fun. CFDs/AFDs

Hi Redfarmer,

I noticed that you have your eye on both CFD & AFD list discussions, and much appreciated you bringing CFD issues to the attention of the recent List of actors who died in their 20s discussion. This issue has been a concern for a while, and I was thinking about starting some sort of a cross-reference list for AFDs that say "category" and CFDs that say "listify", so we could maintain some harmony. Actors who died in their...

Hello,

I noticed that someone recreated the Actors Who Dies in Their 20s category, which had been deleted some time ago. Then I noticed that you made an addition saying the category was up for deletion again. Just out of curiosity, why was this category deleted in the first place, and why do you want it deleted again?

The list allows one to easily see other actors who died in their 20s, and allows him or her to then access articles of people for whom they may otherwise not have searched. If someone didn't know who Sharon Tate was, but came across her name on this list, he could then click on it, out of curiosity, and learn all about Tate, the Manson family, Polanski, etc. Death and Actors are both quite facinating subjects for countless people, and I feel this list will be viewed more than, let's say, Category:Fictional philologists. Relisting AfDs

If you relist an AfD, you need both to enter it in the current log and remove it form the previous one. Otherwise it will still show up in the list of overdue AfDs at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old. Personally, I'd also restrict relisting mostly to those discussions that really had little participation. If the debate is rather fuzzy or seems inconclusive it will usually anyways be left alone for another day or two until some late participants show-up or an admin willing to make a call. This article was listed on Pages needing translation so that someone could look at it before taking drastic action such as speedy delete. CSI NY (redux)

Just stopping back to let you know that I haven't forgotten about the CSI:NY characters mini-project I assigned myself. I'm going to see what the outcome of the Peyton Driscoll AfD is to use that as a somewhat guideline for the smaller characters i.e. Shane Casey to see if we can work from that to some sort of consensus. I've been reading up on sources for both Mac and Stella and I'm wondering if you think there's enough information to even come close to Gil Grissom. I think there was a lot more written about his character since CSI:Vegas was the first and he was the first lead that by the time we came to the 2nd spinoff, coverage was far less. I'm in the same boat with being involved on other things, namely trains and Prague -- I'm awful at linking wiki projects and it will take me 5 edits to get it right so I won't bother. I see what you're doing with the minor Miami characters and I agree. I can't help too much in that vein because I'm not too familiar with Miami or Vegas but I'll definitely help with NY. I'm about to send Shane Casey to the moon since there's virtually no coverage of him and while he was an interesting guest star, he was still a guest star. Yeah I know, he's such a fun character. So much potential, but for some reason, few people care. This review will always make me laugh. His article has potential, even if wrapped in with the cast or the actor's page it's just that it's not enough to warrant its own world. I'm actually working on a larger scope page where there could be substantial character information. I want to build on [User_talk:Travellingcari/Sandbox | what I started] and make it useful. I see hes bugging you about it too, I received an identical message on my own talk page, seems a bit futile to argue a point like when the pages history clearly stated it was him :S. I'm not going to argue about this one with you because I'm not an admin and I can't check deleted contribs to tell you exactly why you received the notice. However, as I tried to explain to you before, the notices were generated using a an automatic script that searches for the original contributor. If you wish to know why you received such a message, I suggest you ask an admin to check the page history for you. If not, I suggest you simply let it drop. I never received a message, but was asked to look into it as you were being belligerent toward editors who had nothing to do with the article despite what Twinkle was telling you. Again: Twinkle is wrong in this case. I am an admin and have checked the article history, and neither of the editors you are dealing with have (or had) anything to do with the article. For one thing, I've not been beligerent to anyone involved in this case and I am offended that you claim I have been. In fact, when the original person contacted me, I simply suggested they might want to make sure their account was secure just in case. To quote my message to them from their talk page:

If you did not create it you may want to check that your account has not been compromised. The warnings were generated with an automatic script which automatically searches for the person who created the article. As the article was speedily deleted, it will not show up on your contributions now but only on an admin's list of deleted contributions. Cheers! Redfarmer (talk) 08:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

This has been my sole contact with the user. I have not talked to them at all and was not even aware they posted a response until I went to their talk page to retrieve the quote for you.
Second, I do not read Japanese so I was unaware until you pointed it out that the Japanese symbols were different. My apologies for this mistake.
Third, as evidence by the above comment left by another editor, my script was apparently not the only one which left a message for the user regarding the page. An AfD discussion was started before it was speedily deleted and the notice was also posted to this user's talk page. If anyone was rude, it was this user, who messaged both of us telling us we were "accusing" them of things. I was nice and assumed good faith. I cannot speak for the other user.
Fourth, I do not understand why you are making a huge deal out of a script posting a warning message. If it's a mistaken Twinkle issue, so be it. We can post the issue to the Twinkle project page and be done with it. Are you trying to make a WP:POINT here though? You seem to be making a mountain out of a mole hill here. Okay, due to all kinds of capitalization, there have been at least four different articles here (pay close attention to the capitalization):

  • Five Clicks to Jesus, created by Joeblow13, deleted, recreated by Rhinojoe13, and subsequently deleted.
  • Five clicks to jesus, created by Cherryontop59, deleted, recreated by PhoenixFire296, deleted, and recreated by Edanomel, and subsequently deleted.
  • Five clicks to Jesus, created by Tremewanbill and subsequently deleted.
  • Five Clicks To Jesus, created by Smailer07 when he moved Arctic Monkeys to Five Clicks To Jesus in an act of vandalism. Ganryuu reverted the vandalism by moving it back, and the system somehow listed him as the creator of this article because of that. This article was also nominated for deletion.

Heh, I was reading this conversation when you're message came in, I have to admit I'm with Redfarmer on this one, mountains and molehills gents, scripts or not we didn't accuse anyone of anything, we simply informed an editor of the possible AfD and CsD of an article. Well, regardless, this explains why they were confused about it, with at least four articles with almost identical titles. Ganryuu is correct in that he didn't actually create any of the articles, though Redfarmer (and his Twinkle) is correct in that the system made it appear as though Ganryuu did create the article. I don't think mountains or molehills had anything to do with this. Yes, exactly, however I would just like to inform Ferdia O'Brien I did not press this issue further after Nihonjoe had helped address it. There were suggestions that my account was compromised, and Ferdia's assertion here really did not help matters. That being said, scripts such as Twinkle mandates for "full responsibility" to be taken in whatever action it is used for, so I'd like to request editors who use this particular script to be cautious while doing so. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 02:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
