Melissa Ann Bisig (nee Miller) was born on an undisclosed day in 1982 at Tinker Air Force Base in Del City, Oklahoma. She was born to Martina Lynn Miller (nee Hurst) and Robert Clay Miller. She has an older maternal half-brother, Matthew Stuart Parris, from her mother's first marriage. She also has an older paternal half-sister, Michelle Yvonne Miller. Her father, who was born in Sacramento, California, was in the United States Navy.
