Redondasaurus means "Redonda lizard". It does not state, however, if Redonda is where the species was first discovered. Shouldn't this be mentioned, if it's so? Wilhelmina Will (talk) 23:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Just checked, and it's actually "Redonda {Formation} lizard", referring to the rock unit instead. J. Spencer (talk) 00:10, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Redondasaurus species

Redondasaurus needs a species list box. There are two species of Redondasaurus: Redondasaurus gregorii Hunt & Lucas, 1993 (type) and Redondasaurus bermani Hunt & Lucas, 1993.

The holotype of R. gregorii is YPM 3294, while the holotype of R. bermani is CM 69727. Hunt and Lucas (1993:193) diagnosed Redondasaurus as differing from all other phytosaurs in having having supratemporal fenestrae concealed in dorsal view and whose anterior margin only slightly emarginated the skull roof and has wide squamosal-postorbital bars. R. gregorii is known only from the Redonda Foramtion of east-central New Mexico and the Travesser Formation of Oklahoma, while R. bermani is known only from the Coelophysis quarry at Ghost Ranch, north-central New Mexico.
