I've removed the merge notice. It would be problematic to merge the personal names to Reading.
[edit] Redding (band)
I've had a question from User:Reddingmusic about adding an article for a band called "Redding". I've suggested that they create an article "Redding (band)" and link it here.
We already have a mention here already but it's not in-keeping. I'd like to clean it up but rather than delete it, I'll make it in-keeping.
It will be a red link initially. Please allow a few weeks for the target article to be created before removing it.

[edit] Punctuation
Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) says:
- Entries should nearly always be sentence fragments. When the entry forms a complete sentence, do not include commas or periods at the end of the line.
A recent (unexplained) edit introduced full stops at the end of every item.
I will reverse the edit to bring the article back into line with MoS:DP.

[edit] "Avoid redirect" counter to WP:D
I noticed that CarolGray made an edit to the article "Redding", with a comment "avoid redirect".
Wikipedia:Disambiguation is quite clear on this point:
- To link to a disambiguation page (instead of a specific meaning), link to the redirect to the disambiguation page that includes the text "(disambiguation)" in the title (such as, America (disambiguation)). This helps distinguish accidental links to the disambiguation page from intentional ones.
Hence my edit of 2 Feb 2006 on which I put the comment "Revert link to explicit disambiguation page (see Disambiguation#Links to disambiguation pages) (this time piping (using empty pipe syntax) to hide from main view)".
I think my reasoning is still sound, and there are no convincing indications to the contrary, so I will put it back in line with WP:D. Thanks, Duckbill 16:07, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
