A note about character descriptions (please do not archive for now)

In the past, several edits to the character descriptions have been reverted. Please keep in mind that the summaries here are meant to be very short (no more than 2-3 sentences per main character, and little more than a sentence per supporting characters) descriptions of a character's most important traits, usually personality traits. Specific plot details are better left to the List of characters in Red vs Blue. Other things that have been rejected are:

  • Other names for the Alien. Those are non-canonical. Just because Caboose calls a character a name doesn't mean that name is sanctioned (otherwise, Donut might as well be called Lieutenant McMuffin).
  • Armor colors. These are considered to be too much detail, and can be gleaned from the screenshots anyway.
  • Bit characters (characters who do not appear in more than one episode).

[edit] Changes, August 8, 2007

Just to explain a couple of things that might not have been obvious from my edits:

  • Since the release of episode 100 has actually now occurred, the April 1 announcement is no longer as relevant, especially not in the lead. Same goes for Ramsey's quote about "as many episodes as we can".
  • The prose paragraphs of the Red and Blue Team characters are meant to summarize the four recurring characters on each team. Sister really didn't belong in that paragraph.

[edit] Series continuation?

I think the 'follow-up mini-series' thing regarding the new Halo 3 lead-in videos should be dropped, or at least re-worded. It makes it sound like the show is picking up where it left off; essentially continuing the story or starting a new one; but it's not. It only exists to promote Halo 3. It is, essentially, a set of new PSAs, and thus doesn't belong in the same section with the actual series seasons.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.0.177.159 (talk • contribs)

Good point...should we move it to the Special Videos page then? Dac 09:28, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea. — TKD::Talk 09:32, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Does anyone have a direct link to any of the videos? I can't find them to comment on them. -- Viewdrix 16:46, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
They can be found here http://www.gamestop.com/gs/halo3/halo3.asp. I moved the section to the special videos page, but I miss-remembered the information provided in the reference and put it in the Bungie/Microsoft section. That might not be the best place so long as there is nothing directly saying they sponsored it. Ccs4ever 08:05, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

There's an interview on Youtube about how RvB is not finished. Only the Blood Gulch Chronicles are. 121.91.99.58 (talk) 11:16, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of maps used in Red vs. Blue

We need one. It no longer exsists. --Shadow 20:51, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

We don't. It was deleted for very good reasons.--Drat (Talk) 21:18, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
In reality, there are some aspects of that list that might have been useful. But the focus should be on added relevant prose to Red vs. Blue production. Rooster Teeth did (and documented) some creative things with the Halo maps worth noting, but the list was a bad way to present that information, and ended up over-emphasizing really trivial details. — TKD::Talk 08:00, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Production as a separate article

Just wanted to get others' feelings on this: Zxcvbnm placed merge tags here and on Red vs. Blue production; I see where the proposal is coming from, but I'm not sure that I agree, given that many sources (including the ones cited in this article) cover the production process heavily, so that it would seem to meet general notability guidelines. Thoughts? — TKD::Talk 13:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Not to mention, it'd have to be trimmed down if it were merged, to avoid dominating the main article. Keep them separate.--Drat (Talk) 15:13, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Production is in need of an update, but once that happens, it could easily be approximately one third to half as long as the main Red vs. Blue article. There have been many small changes made to improve the production values of the series over time, all of fairly equal importance to cover somewhere. It'd be far too difficult to cram the significant details of how they've changed their process from their origin until the end. Keep separate. -- Viewdrix 18:41, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the merge tags per this discussion and listed a few third-party sources at Talk:Red vs. Blue production. — TKD::Talk 07:28, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red vs. Blue 2 joke

My understanding was that the information on RVB2 was removed because it is believed to be a joke. My question is if there has been any actual post by the Rooster Teeth crew that confirms that it was or was not a joke? The Filmaker 17:34, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes. The forum mod Dimono (of roostertooths.com) took it seriously, but now claims Geoff Ramsay sent him a message that it was just a joke. I believe it's a sponsor thread, though. -- Viewdrix 18:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
In either case, it'd be a bit of crystal-balling and original research to interpret the alternate ending that way. If new developments occur, we'd know soon enough. — TKD::Talk 07:02, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red vs. Blue

There is a dungeon in Guild Wars with references to Red vs. Blue in the NPC names and the polar war between two sides in the dungeon. [1]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.110.138.223 (talk) 06:47, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

That'd be good to include, but only if we can find a reliable source for it. — TKD::Talk 17:35, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Episode 0??

Why did no one mention Episode 0? I can't find it anywhere, should it be in season 1 or in special videos? Some one please put it in. Thanks! (Ilikerad 17:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC))

See Red vs. Blue (season 1)#Episode 0. Content about the series is spread out over several articles. — TKD::Talk 21:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red vs Blue cameos in Halo 3?

I've been told that Geoff Ramsey and Gus Sorola (voices of Grif and Simmons) have a cameo scene in Halo 3. Is this true, and if so would it warrant a brief mention somewhere on this page? Joylock 17:27, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Well... a couple of things: (1) we need a source; going by the tone of voices alone would be original research. (2) The probably better belongs in Rooster Teeth Productions, or the individual articles on the voice actors, unless the line is actually a reference to Red vs. Blue itself. — TKD::Talk 17:34, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Their 'cameos' are on a bonus disc in the Legendary Edition, where Gus introduces a version of episode 1 filmed in Halo 3. Before doing so, he opens a brief (fake and comedic) history of how the RT guys got into machinima featuring Burnie and Geoff talking about video games and being able to use it for movies at various points of their lives. As far as I'm aware they didn't appear in the game itself. Dac 00:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
They appeared in the game. They are random marines and also part of an easter egg in the Crow's Nest level. Rooster Teeth won an auction at (PAX?) to be guest voice actors for the game itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Keyes (talkcontribs) 17:32, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I think the contest and the different Cameos in each difficulty should be mentioned in the RvB article, or Rooster Teeth article. They're pretty notable. Flamingtorch372 (talk) 22:18, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Size

This article seems kinda long. It's bigger than the Wiki piece on the country of Ghana for Chrissakes. 66.57.225.198 06:38, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Then again, this article, a featured article, has many more references. I calculate the prose size (that is, excluding references, external links, etc.) at just less than 30 KB and 5,000 words. Per the WP:SIZE guideline, that is by no means inordinately long. Featured articles tend to be longer because of their comprehensiveness and referencing. — TKD::Talk 06:56, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Maybe becuase RvB is hugely popular and noone in the world has heard of Ghana? DUH! --Simpsons fan 66 10:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
No, as a nation, Ghana has vastly more importance in real life. However, the whole comparison to Ghana is a red herring. Each article stands on its own merits. — TKD::Talk 16:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Main Page heads-up

Halo: Combat Evolved has been scheduled for November 15 as the featured article for that day. Red vs. Blue is mentioned and linked to from that blurb, so this article might see additional traffic. — TKD::Talk 12:07, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spartan III

Has anyone thought that the characters are part of the Spartan III project and that is why they wear the armour? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gretnablues (talkcontribs) 20:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

No, because that's the Halo universe, not the Red vs Blue universe. Dac 21:49, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Its the same universe and when you think about it kinda make sence. The Spartan III were made cheeply and quickly and when the war finished the UNSC probably made go against each over. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gretnablues (talkcontribs)

It's not the same universe just because you say it is. After the first episode, the main series abandoned all pretense of being involved with the Halo storyline. Why wouldn't they recognize the Covenant Elite Alien? -- -- Viewdrix (talk) 21:24, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Read the last paragraph of the introduction of the "Plot" section; Burnie Burns has specifically said that they don't intend the fictional universes to be the same. There's a big difference between saying that the Alien character is cast using the Covenant Elite player model in Halo 2 and saying that the character is a Covenant Elite. The former is verifiable; the latter is nothing more than fanon. — TKD::Talk 02:08, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

If that true then why does the master chief is mention in the PSA?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Gretnablues (talkcontribs)

Those are very old videos. Other than the first episode, the PSA and the old narrated trailer, there has been no relation to the Halo universe.--Drat (Talk) 11:10, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
There are even new ones, like the one that came with the Legendary edition of Halo 3, where they needed to pick a double for Master Chief, but are made just for fun and have nothing to do except for the references with either universe. 76.16.188.239 (talk) 20:04, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
The PSAs aren't canon anyway, they're formulated as one-offs with no impact on the actual universe. Dac (talk) 01:05, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I think that sometime into the first season (AND IN A PSA), one of the characters mentions Master Chief. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.150.94.70 (talk) 23:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, as stated a few lines above, Master Chief was mentioned in the first episode and in a lot of the non-canon episodes. Also stated above is the fact that the only canon reference was retconned out and thus there is no relation to the Halo universe. Dac (talk) 03:00, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] F & M

Before you revert my adding of F.E.A.R. and Metroid back to normal and warn me about it, I would just like to inform you that there was a episode of RvB screwing around with F.E.A.R. on G4. There was also a skit of RvB screwing around with Metroid on the SS Free. --Xgmx (talk) 02:20, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

The F.E.A.R. episode you're referring to is a seperate series, P.A.N.I.C.S.. Since SS Free doesn't have a page here, please be more specific about where this Metroid video is. -- Viewdrix (talk) 02:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Not everything made by Rooster Teeth Productions is related to Red vs. Blue. While we appreciate your attempts to add information, please also be aware that this is a featured article and thus should adhere strictly to verifiability standards. I've reverted the addition for now; we need a reliable source for the additional engines. — TKD::Talk 04:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge together episodes list

This was discussed at WT:HALO, but the proposal is to merge all the episodes into one page, with another page for the specials and PSAs. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 11:40, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

That would be an insanely long list page. I can't say I like the idea. Dac (talk) 00:13, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
As they stand, however, they aren't anything besides long plot lists. While they currently would weigh in at 73 KB, conventions hold that episodes lists should only give overviews, not the entire plot; see Smallville (season 1) for an example. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 00:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
True enough, and formatted like that I guess it makes sense, but even so, there aren't as many other references to include, which Smallville had (not to mention so many production notes and awards and what-not). I could see it more reformatting the existing pages like the Smallville page, but to put all five seasons (what about Out of Mind and Recovery One?) into one long list? Also, with Smallville the episodes are in excess of twenty minutes, but with this the episodes are really only five, so the synopses would be shorter.
Precisely- so the lists would be shorter as well, counterbalancing the fact that there are 100 episodes. As for the specials, et al, it was not my intention to merge them- if anything, they would be merged into a 'Specials' list, but either way would not be with the main seasons. I used season 1 of smallville as an example of a featured list, but as you can see from the later seasons, there is less content on production, et al. The notable stuff for each RvB season would be listed in a paragraph before the episode listing, giving an overview of the story and any good details. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 14:25, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reconstruction

This needs its own article, considering it's an actual series and not just a mini-series (which shouldn't matter anyways; OOM and R1 both have their own articles). General Banzai (talk) 22:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I completely agree. Make an new article. 68.43.196.134 (talk) 20:29, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Here it is, just add to it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_vs_Blue:_Reconstruction —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nascarcatcar3 (talkcontribs) 00:12, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

The article was deleted twice due to having "No meaningful, substantive content", according to the deletion logs. I have created the article as Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction (period after "vs" for consistency), and moved over the large plot descriptions, with some corrections, from this article.--Drat (Talk) 03:35, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Get rid of link at the top of the page

Can we get rid of the For divisions in United States politics, see Red states and blue states. link at the top of the page? No one will ever search for "Red vs. Blue" meaning that.--Darknus823 (talk) 03:21, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

People already have. Moreover, people ended up on the Rooster Teeth website for the same reason. It stays. Anyway, why shouldn't it? It's not hurting anyone. Dac (talk) 07:09, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
