[edit] "NASCAR's first champion"/"1949"

Previous version of text ignored NASCAR's first year of sanctioning, 1948, when the Modified division was their only series. Seemed to suggest NASCAR began when the Strictly Stock division first ran, just because that's what became Grand National > Winston Cup > Nextel Cup. Fortunately, Byron won the first year of each, so this will be an easy fix. Barno 04:19, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
