Firstly, we cannot have the Washington Post picture on Wikipedia--it is copyrighted material. Secondly, this has to be a serious encyclopedia article, not an editorial, or a memorial, or a fan page. The article can only state facts, not unbalanced or uncited opinion:

In an era of big room venues, superstar DJs with five figure paychecks, three or more DJs in one night, and clubs whose only philosophy appears to be to strictly booking out of town DJs for their fame or hype factor, Red was an anomaly. It featured a set roster of DJs - some well known, others not so well known - all of whom were given time by the club's owner, Farid Ali, to build their own following and to cultivate relationships the club's core customers. Their only mandate: Play fearlessly and make people dance.

That reads like a memorial to the former club, and it is mostly opinion. I removed it, save for the part about the DJs, until sources can be provided. I also formatted the article to be more in accordance with Wikipedia style, and added some sections at the bottom.

This article seems to have alot of protective anonymous editors who've added decent information, but we do have to keep this looking like a serious article. I've tried to do that by removing as little useful information as possible (and adding some).

Please discuss any major changes to the article here on the talk page first. Thanks. - orioneight (talk) 23:49, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Fine on removal of the Post picture. The other picture you removed, however, was taken by a resident of the club on the final night. That should stay. As far as the passage regarding the philosophy of the club...if the opinion must be cited to pass Wikipedia standards, then I'll be happy to serve as the cited source, since I was one of the residents.

Thanks for understanding the removal of the Post pic. As for the other picture, it doesn't show up on several different computers I have tried. Even on the image page there seems to be a problem (nothing shows up, its blank). I think there may have been a problem with the upload. I only removed that one pic, sorry for not explaining why. I left all the other pics in. As far as the editorial, I understand that you want it included, however, we aren't allowed to include POV statements in articles. This is an encyclopedia, not a review, etc. If you claimed to be the source, that would be called original research, and that is prohibited too. We can only include facts, nothing more. Perhaps you could do some research and find some more resources on the Net that could point to the impotance of the club. - orioneight (talk) 00:06, 6 November 2005 (UTC) (that was me)

[edit] Thanks

I'm not sure what resources and how many would pass muster on Wikipedia in order to support the comment. The Post article on the club's closing essentially mirrors what was previously written. Same with the URB article mentioned on the page. Additionally, there are at least two prominent dance music related websites where the club has been frequently discussed. If those sources would suffice as support for the passages that appear to be opinion, then I will fix the page and add links to those sources.

[edit] Sources

The Post article is a great reference because it is verifiable. Even though it is opinion, is is documented, and does well to show the importance of the club on local culture. Thats why I added the part about 'decidedly important in the Washington D.C. club scene', because I am satisfied that the Post article is verifiable, documentation which shows that. The fact that Urb has given the club a great honor, is also factual and verifiable. Both are great sources that show the importance of the club. Other sources like these would be great. I know it may seem difficult to pass Wikipedia's "muster" for sources, etc. but hopefully you understand why. Anyone could come on here and say "Red was the awesomeist club EVER!!" or even "Red was the suckiest thing I EVER SAW!!".

Red honestly sounds like it was an awesome place (I was in D.C. a few years back. kinda wished i'd went), but I think the sources will speak for themselves and say that. All we can do is give the reader the facts and let them figure that out from the evidence. - orioneight (talk) 00:43, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

BTW, recent edits look great! Much more neutral, and more encyclopedic too. People will respect Red more if it has a really serious encyclopedia entry! - orioneight (talk) 00:46, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

P.S. That one pic still isn't working for me, anyone else having trouble with that?

Thanks for the advice. The pic is working for me on my notebook. I'll have to check on another computer to see if it's a problem elsewhere. Thanks again.

[edit] Page Title

The club is called simply "Red", not "Club Red." So, this page should be moved to the following address: Red(nightclub)|Red. Similar to Cream(nightclub)|Cream. The redirect from the "Red, a nightclub" page I created, should be deleted. The title format is wrong.

YO Orioneight - many thanks to you for stepping up & stepping in. you have helped a few of us turn this into a proper article. thanks for your help. I would also agree with changing the title from Club Red to simply "Red" - that is more accurate for sure, it was never called "Club Red" - adding the Red(nightclub)Red is the trick needed due to the minimal name of the club, similar to cream. So if someone can sort that out, thanks again. its really come along well as an article.

Thanks for the props! Since you guys agreed, I went ahead and moved this page to Red (nightclub). I also updated the redirects, so typing Club Red or Red, a nightclub or RED, a nightclub will all take you to this article. It's also listed on the Red disambiguation page. Let me know if any of the redirects aren't working correctly and I'll check 'em out.
Also, let me thank you guys for your cooperation and understanding. The article really came along when we all worked together. I think it looks really good now! - orioneight (talk) 18:03, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
