Redland Green School is a relatively new school in Bristol, UK. It cost over GBP 36 million to build, this is a figure which is higher than the original budget. [1] The school has facilities for 945 11-16 year-olds, 450 post 16 students, and dedicated facilities for 50 students with learning difficulties.[2]
On April 24, 2008, the school was one of the schools in Bristol to be shut due to a teachers strike. [3]
The overspend in the building of the school was described in the local media. The Bristol Evening Post reported that "Spending rules on major city council projects are being tightened up to try to ensure blunders such as at Redland Green School are never repeated," in an article written after the completion of the school building.[4]

[edit] Name
[edit] Current
There were many other suggestions for the name of the school. This included Paul Dirac, which was portrayed in the local press as the probable name for the school.[5][6]
[edit] Previous
The school was previously known as New North Bristol School.[7]
[edit] Headteacher
The headteacher is Sarah Baker, who went to Bath University. On the website of the school she comments on her position at the school. "The first two years have been the most enjoyable and also the most challenging of my career. It is a real privilege to be in the position of starting up a school and working with Governors, students and staff to build the school community. The parents of Years 7, 8 and 12 have been so supportive and have shown a real leap of faith in sending their children to a school which did not exist and was not yet built. It is a joy to work at Redland Green School." [8]
[edit] Location
The school is located on Redland Court Road, in the ward of Redland. [9]
Redland is an affluent inner suburb and parish in Bristol, England. The suburb is situated between Clifton, Cotham and Bishopston, and is within the County of Bristol and the Bristol West Parliamentary constituency. [10]
[edit] Catchment Area
The catchment area of the school, was recently shrunk due to a high number of applications for admission into the school. [11].
[edit] Uniform
The school website says that the uniform includes a "navy blue blazer with school badge and optional v-neck Redland Green School (RGS) blue jumper with school logo for both boys and girls." It also says that "the uniform has been designed to be smart and contemporary, but not overly formal, and does not include a tie."[12]
