[edit] History and popularity
The redheaded slut was purportedly invented by Chris Smela and James Tracy, bartenders at Captain Tony's Saloon (formerly Sloppy Joe's) in Key West, Florida, which keeps a wall plaque to commemorate the event.[1] A bartender at a bar in downtown Los Angeles, CA also claims to have invented the drink.[citation needed] It is popular at bars among college-aged adults, who enjoy the flirtatiousness of ordering drinks with sexually explicit names.[2]
[edit] Preparation and variations
A redheaded slut is typically made as either a mixed drink or a shooter. As a mixed drink the ingredients are generally poured over ice in a small cocktail glass, then stirred. As a shooter, the ingredients are mixed with ice in a cocktail shaker then strained and poured into a shot glass.
A relatively uncommon variation is to substitute Chambord for the cranberry juice, and possibly to substitute Canadian Whisky and Southern Comfort for the schnapps and Jaegermeister.
