Redbrick is the student newspaper of the University of Birmingham. It is produced weekly during term time by the Guild of Students and has a potential readership of more than 20 000 students.
Redbrick is written, photographed, edited and published entirely by students of the University and is run on a non-profit basis, funded by both advertising revenue and the Guild of Students. The newspaper celebrated its 70th birthday and 1300th issue in late 2006.
The new editorial team for 2007-08 include James Ogden as Editor, with Stephen Pitchers and Danni Moore as Deputy Editors.
It is distributed free around the university campus and local area by a group of dedicated students in all weather conditions.
It is closely linked to the other media groups at the Guild of Students - BurnFM.com, Guild Television (GTV) and PhotoSoc.
In the summer term of 1972, just after the Gay Liberation Front annual conference, held in the Guild of Students, Redbrick published a controversial article entitled Who's a Wanker? which described practical aspects of homosexuality, a highly controversial matter in that era. The issue ran out and had to be reprinted. At the same time, it was reported to the Press Council because of that article; the issue was subsequently withdrawn.
