Red Oak is a city in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,301 at the 2000 census. More recent estimates of the city's population give it as 6,200.[citation needed] The North Central Texas Council of Governments projects that number to grow to 63,329 by the year 2030 [4], as it is on the verge of explosive suburban growth.

(32.525607, -96.806189)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.8 square miles (20.3 km²), all of it land.
Adjacent cities are: DeSoto and Duncanville to the Northhwest; Dallas to the North; Glenn Heights and Ovilla to the West; Lancaster to the North and Northeast; and Waxahachie to the South.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 4,301 people, 1,570 households, and 1,238 families residing in the city. The population density was 550.0 people per square mile (212.4/km²). There were 1,625 housing units at an average density of 207.8/sq mi (80.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 85.98% White, 5.42% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 4.65% from other races, and 2.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.69% of the population.
There were 1,570 households out of which 43.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.5% were married couples living together, 16.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.1% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the city the population was spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $48,583, and the median income for a family was $61,250. Males had a median income of $38,227 versus $26,276 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,049. About 6.3% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.1% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.
