Embezzler Nick Cherney plots murderous revenge after he is fired from Johnny Torno's freight company. He gets it by killing Johnny's brother Jess, a chaplain who has just returned from the war. When Johnny arrives at his brother hotel room, he is told by Jess that a clue to the killer's identity can be found inside the room's Bible.
