The Red Belt is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's outermost "belt" in the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Belt System. Unlike all of the other belts in the system, the Red Belt does not make a part of a loop-- instead, it runs east-west in the northern most part of Allegheny County. The belt was originally set up in the 1940s though the current route was finalized in the 1970s.
The current Red Belt is 30 miles long. It runs from PA 65 in Leetsdale in the west to PA 366 in Tarentum in the east. Unlike most other belts in the system with access to many Pennsylvania routes, the Red Belt only intersects Pennsylvania State Highways at its endpoints, and at US-19 in Marshall Township and at PA-8 in Richland Township. The original route of the belt ran from Arnold to PA 989 in West Economy.
