Talk:Record press

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Do you know any other brand of record press? There was a brand out of Denmark if I remember correctly called "xxx and Johanssen".

There was also am automatic press said to be made in Taiwan.

Also, I have blueprints in Japanese for an automatic press, but no brand name. The blueprints are in an A3 format book about 1" thick. Any ideas of a Japanese maker of record presses?

I am quite sure the Philips presses I saw that came out of PolyGram New Zealand were branded "Kamal". Any comment on this?

In Australia, RCA used six Australian-made "JOHNS" hyraulic presses with book-type moulds, together with ten Alpha Toolex manual presses before upgrading with four Alpha Delta auto preses. I don't think we need to include regular hydraulic presses such as "Johns" which were converted into record presses if the maker did not design them specifically for record pressing.

So, are there any other brands out there?

[edit] No longer in production?

The last record presses ever made are said to be those built and supplied by Alpha Toolex to Melodiya Records (USSR) in the mid 80s.

So are all the record presses in use today of 1980s or earlier vintage? 217.155.20.163 10:28, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, all the record presses in use today were made well before the mid 80s. Most presses are thirty years old and I know of one plant using presses made in 1962 or 1963. In the 1990s CBS Australia were using presses made in the 1960s if not earlier. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.216.74.124 (talk) 07:28, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
