Record Department are a band from the UK, formed in Leeds at Leeds University by Jonny Price (lead vocals, guitar, Kaoss Pad), Jon Burrow (guitar), Ryan Abbt (bass guitar) and Sarah Pinnell (drums).
The name was chosen as a reference to George Orwell's classic novel 1984 in which the principal character Winston Smith is forced to meet the demands of an autocratic dictatorship working in the Department of Records.
They are one of the winners of Bright Young Things 2008, a competition run by the Leeds City Council picking out the brightest young musical talent in the region.
