Recoil Games is a game development company founded in Helsinki, Finland on November 2006. The company is led by Samuli Syvähuoko and currently has a growing team of 20 plus employees. Recoil team credits itself with creation of a new category in the Action Adventure game genre, which they call "Cinegames"[2]. Their current project - Earth No More - is scheduled to be released in 2009 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles.[3]

[edit] Design Concepts

Recoil defines "Cinegames" as:

"..a fusion of emotional human drama and epic movie-like settings. Recoil focuses on creating realistic characters that react to the chaos unfolding around them in a convincing and gripping way."

The team has stated their intention to include a broader rage of emotions in their projects, which runs in contrast to mainstream trend of focusing on scenarios based around revenge or a play on aggression[4]. In the same vein, Recoil plans to stray from the common “lone adventurer" protagonist approach to game design, instead developing the experience around a cast of characters and a more collaborative effort to solving conflicts. Another aspect they want to pioneer is the effects of player’s decision-making on the game world. The decisions that main characters will make throughout the game will affect how their allies and enemies behave and treat them further along the storyline, thus also affecting future opportunities present to players when overcoming the challenges arising before them.
