Category:Recipients of American presidential pardons

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The President of the United States is given the power to grant pardons to people accused of or convicted of criminal activity. Pardons can be given to prevent the prosecution of a criminal offense, or to mitigate the punishment for an offense for which a person has been convicted, to restore civil rights to a convicted person or to erase the conviction altogether.

Among the most famous pardons in American history was the pardon issued by President Gerald Ford to his predecessor Richard Nixon for any crimes Nixon may have committed during the Watergate scandal.
