Rebecca Chloe Miller (née Chloe Jackson) was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She was played by Jade Sharif.
[edit] Life
Chloe was delivered by Mo Harris in her mother Sonia Jackson's house on 26 October 2000.
15-year-old Sonia didn't know she was pregnant. Chloe was the result of an underage fling between Sonia and Martin Fowler. She was subsequently given up for adoption, and social workers Ameena Badawi and Diane Irving found her a new home with Neil and Sue Miller. The Millers changed Chloe's name to Rebecca.
In 2002, Sonia, who had delved into depression over the guilt of 'abandoning' her daughter, kidnapped Rebecca while Neil and Sue were out. Sonia told their babysitter that she was a family friend, and snatched Rebecca, taking her to Walford. Neil and Sue worked this out and went to Walford to get Rebecca back.
While Sonia barricaded herself inside her house, the Millers gave Dot Branning fifteen minutes to persuade Sonia to hand Rebecca over before they phoned the police. Dot successfully persuaded Sonia to hand Rebecca over, and just as the Millers were about to call the police, Sonia returned Rebecca.
In 2005, Neil and Sue were killed in a car crash, and Rebecca moved in with Sue's mother, Margaret Wilson. The news of the crash was read by Sonia in the newspaper, and she and Martin, who were now married, grew concerned for their daughter and decided to track her down to make sure she was well. Posing as friends of the Millers, Margaret allowed the Fowlers into their home and it was only when they admitted who they really were that she told them to get out.
Pauline Fowler, Martin's mother, demanded to see the little girl, and Margaret gave in after a few attempts, and allowed Pauline to meet with Rebecca. After some disagreements, Pauline decided that it was time to say farewell to Rebecca for good, and she and Margaret parted on good terms.
Pauline, however, accidentally sent a birthday card to Rebecca that Sonia has planned on sending years ago (although she kept it instead), and Margaret turned up, asking if Martin and Sonia would like to go to Rebecca's birthday party. Since Sonia wasn't in, Pauline went instead, and she and Martin kept this visit secret from Sonia, who went ballistic when her husband admitted the truth. This added intense pressure on their already strained marriage.
As such, following Margaret's illness, she asked Pauline if she, Sonia and Martin could look after Rebecca for Christmas 2005, but her visit was postponed to February 2006 and then she went back to live with Margaret again.
Margaret decided to make Sonia and Martin Rebecca's legal guardians in case anything happened to her. She arrived at the Fowlers' house when Sonia was putting a drunk Martin to bed and was unaware of their separation. She told Sonia what she'd like them to do for Rebecca and Sonia roped Martin into pretending that they were still married, much to the fury of Pauline, who made snide comments toward Sonia all through the evening. Martin began to feel guilty about the lies they were telling, particularly when Margaret talked about Sue's love for Rebecca and how she wanted her grandchild to have a happy and honest life. Martin told Margaret the truth about how Sonia had left him and was living with Naomi Julien, and Margaret left, telling Sonia she could never trust her again. Sonia was enraged at Martin, and even more furious when she found out that Martin had gone to see Margaret later that week and how she'd made him Rebecca's legal guardian.
When Margaret had a fall and died, Rebecca was left in the care of Martin. Pauline did not want Sonia to see Rebecca but Martin allowed her access. When Martin began a relationship with Carly Wicks, Rebecca took to her straight away and Sonia was devastated when Rebecca told her she'd rather go to the park with Martin and Carly than to the seaside with Sonia. Rebecca also asked Carly to be her "mum" for the mum's race at her school's sports day.
One evening, Sonia was drunk and came round to the Fowlers' house to see Rebecca. Rebecca was asleep but woke up because of all the shouting. Rebecca shouted that she didn't like Sonia anymore. Sonia was devastated. Rebecca eventually came to like Sonia again and Pauline let Sonia have access to Rebecca.
Pauline organised a party for Rebecca's 6th birthday. She didn't invite Sonia but Martin thought that it was unfair to leave Sonia out and invited her anyway. Sonia bought Rebecca a cake from the shop but Pauline said it was full of rubbish and Rebecca wasn't having it. Sonia then baked a cake with Dot's help. Pauline threw the cake on the floor when nobody was looking and Betty the dog ate it. Rebecca was upset about the cake but Pauline had made her another one. Everyone accused Pauline of putting the cake on the floor deliberately to spite Sonia.
Sonia and Martin got back together in December 2006. They decided to tell Rebecca that they were her real parents after Pauline threatened to.
On Christmas Day 2006, Pauline died when she was about to move to America. When Rebecca heard the news she was very upset. Rebecca had seen Sonia arguing with Pauline when she was delivering a Christmas card, but neither Sonia nor Pauline had seen Rebecca. Sonia had slapped Pauline and Rebecca told Sonia that she had seen this and asked if that was the reason Pauline was dead. Sonia assured her that it wasn't but Rebecca started avoiding Sonia.
A distraught Rebecca slipped away from the funeral procession. Dot followed her and explained that Pauline had gone to heaven. Rebecca blurted out that Sonia sent her there, which shocked Dot. Dot decided to phone the police and when they arrived they stopped the funeral.
After a heated argument with Martin, with revelations of keeping Rebecca quiet so she wouldn't tell, and Martin trying to get Sonia to show him how she hit Pauline, Sonia tried to keep things under control, after Jim interrupted the fight. Going to get some tea, Sonia didn't notice Martin slip out, and panicked when she found him gone. Rushing to the Brannings', Sonia found Rebecca missing from her bedroom, only to then find her and Martin back in the Fowler household.
Rebecca heard the argument rise again between Martin and Sonia, which ended up in Martin telling Sonia that since she took someone away from him (Pauline), he would take someone away from her (Rebecca). In a blind rage, Sonia finally hit Martin, causing his lip to bleed. Martin took this to be the amount of force used on Pauline, resulting in Martin lunging at Sonia and throwing her out into the street.
The police arrived, as Martin phoned them on his way back to the Fowlers', and arrested Sonia on the charge of the murder of Pauline. Sonia was pulled into the police car, pleading to Rebecca (who had come out into the street) to be a good girl for her mother.
On 12 January 2007 Pauline's funeral took place but she did not want to go. Instead she and Jane stayed behind. Sonia who was in hiding saw her with Jane and decided to meet her one last time before handing herself in to the police. Sonia and Rebecca talked for a while and she began to trust her mother again. Eventually the two hugged each other. Martin returned from the funeral and saw that Rebecca was missing. He saw Sonia and Rebecca run down the street and into a car. Martin chased after them but was too late and saw the car speed away.
Sonia eventually returned to Walford with Rebecca, after Martin had kidnapped Ben on the railtracks.
On 26 January 2007 Sonia was arrested again, only for Dot to find out the same night that Pauline's husband Joe was Pauline's true killer. Sonia said a final goodbye to her daughter at the Brannings' house. Rebecca saw her mother get arrested from a bedroom window and was very upset. Sonia was eventually released and Rebecca was re-united with her, but Sonia felt that for both Martin and Rebecca's sake it was better for her to leave Walford.
Rebecca was upset with Sonia's decision but put on a brave face for her. Having said goodbye to Sonia, Rebecca moved back to the Fowler household but Martin realized that they did not want to be without Sonia. Sonia left the Square in tears but was shocked when she saw Martin,Rebecca and Pauline's dog Betty, sitting on the road in front of the cab she was in. Packed and ready to go the three came to the conclusion that they needed each other. After some convincing and tears they left Walford happily on 2 February 2007.
