No - I get a 404 error of "Not Found -- The requested URL /group/sci.med.prostate.prostatitis/topics%7C was not found on this server."

You need drop the pipe character as alternative displayed text follows on from the 1st space within the square brackets, also for URLs only one set square brackets needed:

Hence [http://groups.google.com/group/sci.med.prostate.prostatitis/topics sci.med.prostate.prostatitis]
Gives sci.med.prostate.prostatitis
