Talk:Real part

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, I wonder who decided that

It is denoted by Re{z} or \Re \{ z \}

where the second appear bigger and somehow preferred, while the more common way to refer to real part is:

The number x\ , defined by
x = \operatorname{Re}(z)
is the real part of the complex number, z\ , and y\ , defined by
y = \operatorname{Im}(z)
is the imaginary part.

What do you think about this? A unique standard is not to be preferred? Kar.ma 13:32, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
