Ready Or Not is a sequel to All-American Girl, a young adult novel written by Meg Cabot. The plot revolves around whether Samantha 'Sam' Madison and David, her genius-boyfriend, also the President's son are able to stand up to the unfair law about to be passed by David's dad.

Sam gets really sick of all the attention she receives because of saving the President's life. So, she ends up coloring her hair black, just so that people won't be able to recognize her all that easily. One day, David asks her to go with him to Camp David, the presidential retreat for the weekend so that they could do a lot of fun stuff and 'play parcheesi' She wonders if 'parcheesi' is really a boy codeword for 'doing it' and starts to freak out.She asks her sister Lucy for advice and she gives her all forms of birth control, like she has had a lot of experience in the field concerned. Meanwhile, Lucy develops romantic feelings for Harold - a tutor hired by her parents to make Lucy pass her SATs.Sam has to speak on the programme in which the president would be announcing his new law that drugstores should inform the parents of the teenagers who go to them to buy condoms. Kris Parks, Sam's schoolmate, the founder of 'Right Way', seems to be really interested in the law, while she is really at Random Alvarez, the hot VJ who comes to host the show at their school.
When the programme is being telecast live on MTV, Sam stands up to it and asks whether if she has said yes to sex, she is a bad person. That causes a lot of commotion and the President of the United States, David's dad, is furious. David justifies Sam's actions. In the end, David and Sam end up 'Doing It'. When Lucy asks her about it, Sam spills, and discovers that Lucy herself is still a virgin. Meanwhile, Lucy had broken up with her boyfriend Jack and finally got with Harold Minsky with a little of Sam's tutoring on 'Hellboy'
