Reactive nitrogen species

Reactive nitrogen species are free radicals that are continuously produced in plants as by-products of aerobic metabolism or in response to stresses[1].

They act together with reactive oxygen species (ROS) to carry out detrimental effects on cells. Therefore, these two species are often generalized as ROS/RNS.
