Category talk:Real Irish Republican Army

User:One Night In Hackney says that it is "misleading" to include this category in Category:U.S. State Department designated terrorist organizations. The United States Department of state lists "REAL IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY (a.k.a. 32 COUNTY SOVEREIGNTY COMMITTEE; a.k.a. 32 COUNTY SOVEREIGNTY MOVEMENT; a.k.a. IRISH REPUBLICAN PRISONERS WELFARE ASSOCIATION; a.k.a. REAL IRA; a.k.a. REAL OGLAIGH NA HEIREANN; a.k.a. RIRA)" as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization." It seems pretty straight-forward to me, and I can't imagine what is misleading about it, so I have reverted. --71.191.135.128 (talk) 05:59, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Both this and this category contain articles about organisations that are not offifically designated FTOs. Therefore the category only goes on the article of the organisation that is an FTO. BigDunc (talk) 14:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- You're just factually wrong about this. Name one organization in Category:Real Irish Republican Army that has not officially been designated as an FTO. As mentioned above, Real Irish Republican Army, 32 County Sovereignty Committee, 32 County Sovereignty Movement, Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association, Real Ira, Real Oglaigh na Heireann, and RIRA are all considered aliases of one another and are all proscribed by the Department of State. If you don't believe me, you can look it up in the Federal Register itself. here is the Office of Foreign Assests Control's list of blocked persons and organzations, and you will note that each one of those organizations is blocked as an FTO and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. --71.191.135.128 (talk) 18:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
The 32 CSM do not appear on the list of FTOs, and this source which he used isn't about FTOs. It's going on the main article only.--Domer48 (talk) 18:59, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, it does. The "[FTO] [SDGT]" listed after the 32 CSM means that it is a Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist, i.e., you go to jail if you give them "material support." I understand that you're a Irish Republican and don't like the fact that the US government has labled these groups as terrorists, but it has. If you want to change it, write a letter to Condi Rice, but don't try to hide the fact that supporting these groups is, in fact, illegal in the United States (although ironically it is legal to support the 32 CSM in the UK) --71.191.135.128 (talk) 19:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Once again, I repeat that the OFAC, which is in charge of enforcing the sancions placed on FTO, lists "32 COUNTY SOVEREIGNTY COMMITTEE (a.k.a. 32 COUNTY SOVEREIGNTY MOVEMENT; a.k.a. IRISH REPUBLICAN PRISONERS WELFARE ASSOCIATION; a.k.a. REAL IRA; a.k.a. REAL IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY; a.k.a. REAL OGLAIGH NA HEIREANN; a.k.a. RIRA) [FTO] also listed as [SDGT] on 10-31-01." --71.191.135.128 (talk) 19:16, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fianna
It's a valid cat on the RIRA as the RIRA has a wing of the Fianna, therefore it belongs. This editor agrees, as indicated in their edit summary--Domer48 (talk) 16:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think that you're probably right. My main problem is you seem to be attempting to have it both ways, i.e. this category shouldn't be in the FTO category because only some members of Fianna are members of an FTO, but at the same time Fianna should be in the RIRA category because, after all, some Fianna members are members of the RIRA. It has to be one or the other. --71.191.135.128 (talk) 00:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

- I also want to say that it strikes me as supremely disingenious to cite someone took FF out of this category as evidence that you have consensus to keep it in. It's also totally illogical to suggest that "some members of the Fianna don't like the RIRA at all" is somehow a tacit admission that the RIRA has a branch of the Fianna. If he had said "some members of Al Qaeda don't like Jews at all (a correct statement), would you then argue that that is proof that Al Qaeda is a branch of Judiaism? It just makes no sense. --71.191.135.128 (talk) 00:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
The RIRA has a wing of the Fianna, I was not the one who introduced the "some" into this discussion. --Domer48 (talk) 07:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
