Razor Burn is the 7th studio album by the South African gothic rock band The Awakening, released on Massacre Records in September 2006.
[edit] Recording
A follow-up to the 2004 album Darker Than Silence, this album was originally set to be released in 2005 but was postponed till 2006 when the band signed a record deal with the Germany-based Massacre Records. On this album, The awakening's line-up consisted of Ashton Nyte (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Frankie Clark (bass, backing vocals), and Marcus van der Tuin (guitars). The drums were programmed. Marketed as "Finest blend of pounding metal guitars and traditional gothic rock," the album features dark, moody industrial elements mixed mid-tempo rock song structures.Thematically, Razor Burn is a concept album with prevalent asylum theme and references to "Big Brother" and "the Machine". Also, the singles "Halo" and "Arrow" received positive reception.
With the European distribution and marketing of Massacre Records it received more notice than the band's previous albums as well as positive review from alternative music press.[1][2]
