Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia as we drive for print or DVD publication; see the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. Raymond's reply: Why can't I simply put a link to my own personal web page on my own user page? The user page is, after all, about the user? Seems like another case of External Links paranoia.
[edit] September 2007
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Stanford University. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 16:35, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
