[edit] Termite mounds attribution
Hi. I will use your photo in my work. How do you want me to give you credits? In my paper under the Figure where your photo appears it will read:
"Figure 1: Cathedral mounds built by termites. Photo taken in the Northern Territory of Australia by Ray Norris, found at Wikimedia Commons. Used under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 licence. For more information and credits, see Appendix A."
Then in my appendix A entitled Credits, in the Figure 1 subsection, there will be the text:
"Appendix A: Acknowledgements and credits
Figure 1
Figure 1 shows a photograph taken by Ray Norris and found at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Termite_cathedral_mounds.jpg
Figure 1 is used under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 li- cence which can be seen at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/legalcode
According to Wikimedia Commons, the photograph shown in Figure 1 was up- loaded to Wikimedia Commons on 2 March 2007 by Ray Norris. "
I still haven't decided what licence to use for my paper but it will probably be GFDL or some form of verbatim copying licence.
Please confirm that the way I credit you is okay for you, tell me whether in your opinion I should include a Copyright (2007) Ray Norris notice (I currently don't as I didn't see any such notice in your upload text and I'm not sure whether legally I should include it and whether I could infer the copyright owner and year from the upload data, but if you confirm it I have no problem to include it), and that in your opinion it is okay for me to use your CC-licensed work under GFDL or other licence according to CC's provision for "collective works". Please also tell me whether you would like me to include a link to your homepage or Wikipedia user page or your email in the credits in a line reading "Ray Norris can be contacted at" as I will be happy to do so if you like it. Please also confirm whether the person appearing in the photo has signed a model release form or whether they have agreed to be in the photo in some other way. Last but not least, thanks for making this nice photo available! NerdyNSK (talk) 02:31, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Mounds usage
Hi there, you asked how I used your mounds photo. You can have a look at a working version of my work where the photo is used (follow the link towards the PDF file). By the way, please take some time to explore a few of the pages on my wiki (CosmosWiki) there. I am trying to bootstrap a free academic community, so perhaps you may have some interest (right now it is in a very early stage but I hope I will be able to develop it quickly). If you ever want to publish a preprint paper online, or just publish your thoughts on academic issues, or generally self-pubish anything which is of academic or research or scholarship value, feel free to use my CosmosWiki. I accept most good copyright licences there, including GFDL and Creative Commons. NerdyNSK (talk) 18:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Archaeastronomy article
Hi, I wondered if you;d be interested in this? Talk:Archaeoastronomy#Should_we_replace_the_methodology_section.3F
I think other people could do a better job of the methodology section than I did, especially given the poor treatment of ethnoastronomy. I wondered if you'd be interested in editing on it. I appreciate it could be lazy of me to ask you to do the writing, but I thought it would be a good way of cross-linking to the material on aboriginal astronomy. Obviously the rest of it can be improved as well, but your work on the ethnoastronomy pages particularly came to mind. Alun Salt (talk) 18:31, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
