Photo request It is requested that a picture or pictures of this person be included in this article to improve its quality.

Note: Wikipedia's non-free content use policy almost never permits the use of non-free images (such as promotional photos, press photos, screenshots, book covers and similar) to merely show what a living person looks like. Efforts should be made to take a free licensed photo during a public appearance, or obtaining a free content release of an existing photo instead.

Raymond was also involved with maintaining the FAQ for comp.text.tex, and alt.tv.simpsons, I believe. --203.14.156.3

[edit] Upcoming book

I get like 3 google hits for this, two of them bookstores with no info and antoher is just a blog advert. This whole slew of stuff was posting in the article:

Much ink is devoted to describing the "how" of using and developing software for Windows, but very few go into the "why". What appear at first to be quirks often turn out to have entirely logical explanations, reflecting the history, evolution, and design of the Windows operating system. Knowing this makes the experience of using Windows less frustrating and enlightens both users and developers in how to work with Windows rather than fighting against it in order to achieve one's goal.
The key element that distinguishes this book is its emphasis on explaining the rationale behind Windows. It is not a reference or even a tutorial but rather a "practical history", an attempt to give the reader insight for the philosophy of Windows through a series of conversations.
This book takes the unique approach of demystifying Windows through a series of brief, largely independent essays rather than undertaking a sequential pedagogical treatment. Readers can skip to topics of momentary interest (or technical expertise) or read cover-to-cover.

While this may be true, if needs to be referenced!RN 05:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
A link to the book's info on the publisher's page is included; I think at the moment that is the most useful tactic. JenKilmer 01:55, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] notability / verification

I'm not sure this article meets the requirements for notability and verification. Most of the citations are to his blog. While I do not doubt the accuracy, it does imply that there are not many primary or secondary sources for this information.

Are there more sources or publications that could be cited here? JenKilmer 01:14, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

He's pretty notable, I assure you. As for references, there are probably some dead tree references, but they're a little more difficult to link to... enochlau (talk) 15:02, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Difficult to link to, but they can certainly be cited. JenKilmer 15:20, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

Raymond noted in his blog (final 3 paragraphs) that the picture in the article appears to be from the Microsoft Channel9 website, which restricts use per copyright. I believe the person who originally uploaded the image is attempting to get permission, but in the meantime I removed the thumbnail from the article. JenKilmer 18:00, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

The image has been flagged for possible copyright violation, if you have information to clear the copyright please do so BEFORE reverting the image. JenKilmer 15:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

I tried to contact Channel9, but they never replied. Are there any attendees of that PDC speech who took photos of Chen themselves? --tyomitch 23:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Middle name

From http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2006/10/09/808230.aspx#comments

You can stalk with public information. (Isn't there even a term for it - 'googlestalking' or something?) for example, the article prominently displays my middle name, something I am very protective about. Earlier versions included my undergraduate research work, which I'm pretty sure I've never discussed here. And the precise dialect of Chinese I speak with my parents (something I revealed only with great reluctance and subsequently regretted). -Raymond
