Is Ray Davies really of significantly Irish descent? In X-Ray (his autobiography) he describes himself as having Welsh ancestry, which given his surname, is quite possible. He also says he is generally of 'mongrel' British extraction. To my knowledge he isn't Roman Catholic (though I'm not saying that always equates to being of Irish descent), so I was wondering where the Irish origin link came from? Is it from something his brother Dave said?

I've never heard Ray claim to be of Irish extraction, though he did marry an Irish ballet dancer at one point and lived in Ireland. I was thinking maybe his mother was of Irish descent and his father was of Welsh origin? That would explain why he doesn't have an Irish surname.Pandatronic

Is it relevant to mention that his last name is pronounced "DAVIS"? If someone is looking for a project (I'm not right now, or at least not this one) you might take on major work here. At the moment, it is a lightweight trivia-filled article on someone who ought to be viewed reasonably seriously as a creative figure.
