Raytheon Polar Services
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Raytheon Polar Services is a division of Raytheon which exists to facilitate the Polar research vessels used by the National Science Foundation.[1] Raytheon builds the vessels, to the NSF's specifications, and owns them and runs them, once they are complete. The NSF uses the vessels under long term charters.[2][3][4]
On October 28, 2004 Raytheon told its stockholders[1]:
During the quarter, the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs exercised its five year option on the U.S. Antarctic Program, awarding TS a $546 million contract extension that runs from April 2005 through March 2010.

Among the research vessels Raytheon runs on the NSF's behalf are the Laurence M. Gould and the Nathaniel B. Palmer.[2][3][4] Paradoxically the Palmer services McMurdo Station, while the Gould services Palmer Station.
