Raymore-Peculiar High School (Missouri)

Raymore-Peculiar High School (Ray-Pec) is a public high school serving the towns of Raymore, Peculiar, parts of Lee's Summit, and some unincorporated areas of Cass county. The school is located at 20801 S. School Road in Peculiar. The school's mascot is the Panther and the school colors are officially black and white, although gold has been in regular use for some time.

[edit] Academic Unit Changes
Raymore-Peculiar High School underwent a change as to the number of academic units (also known as credits) starting with the Class of 2009. In previous years, students were required to successfully complete 27 units of courses. The 27 unit curriculum required completing 3 units of English, 2 units of Math, 3 units of Social Studies, and 2 units of Science. The newly instituted 28 unit curriculum requires completion of 4 units of English, 3 units of Math, 3 units of Social Studies, and 3 units of Science.

According to the 2007-2008 course catalog[1], the high school offers a wide variety of courses. Ray-Pec offers many academic courses to suit students of all academic abilities. Regular academic courses range from English to College Algebra to Biology to American Government. The high school also offers more rigorous courses to enable advanced students to succeed in a more challenging environment. There are many of these advanced courses in each academic area.

Raymore-Peculiar High School is also a participant in the dual-credit program, where students earn high school credit and also college credit hours. These courses range from college-level Spanish to Calculus to college English. Participating post-secondary institutions include UMKC and the MCCKC[2]

The high school is also a participant in the Advanced Placement program. Courses that can be taken for AP exam preparation include: AP Biology, AP U.S. Government]] and AP Art.
[edit] Athletics
The athletic programs are part of the Kansas City Suburban Conference-Big 6 Red Division, and are in the MSHSAA Class 5.
[edit] Drama Department
When the members of the forensics and debate teams are not competing, they are often acting in many of Raymore-Peculiar's main stage theatre productions.
[edit] Speech and Forensics
The program is currently centered around its speech events (or IEs, short for Individual Events). The school consistently qualifies many IEs to the National Forensics League National Championship and the MSHSAA State Championships.
