Raymond Smoot

Raymond Keith Smoot was allegedly beaten to death by several correctional officers at the Central Booking facility in Baltimore, Maryland in 2005 [1]. His death was the center of a controversy surrounding Central Booking and the system that ultimately resulted in the homicide conviction of one officer, and the firings of several more.

On May 14, 2005, Smoot died after an apparent altercation with correctional officers at the Central Booking facility. His death, which was ruled a homicide, drew the attention of the FBI shortly after its occurrence [2].
