Raymond Island

Raymond Island (Gunai language: Bunjil-baul[1]) - A small island in the Gippsland Lakes,approximately six kilometeres long by two wide, 200 metres off the coast of Paynesville in eastern Victoria, Australia about 300 km from Melbourne. It has a population of approximately 350.[2]
It is well-known locally for its large koala population and its chain ferry.The crossing from Paynesville takes just three minutes and more than 60 bird species and many species of ground orchids and wild flowers may be observed by nature lovers. In addition to the large native Koala population,which can be found in Manna gums within a five minute walk from the ferry, kangaroos, wallabies echidnas and lizards may also be seen. Families enjoy walking or cycling the many tracks, while the BBQ and playground facilities near the ferry provide pleasant relaxation.
