[edit] History
Bloomfield achieved early success in 1976 when he created Rayfield Estates [1], which quickly became a very successful real estate agency specializing in luxury residential properties in London, before moving into residential development. Thereafter he moved on to Commercial Real Estate Development and Investment.
Raymond Bloomfield is widely credited with being the first person to originate and implement the idea of bringing major German real estate investors into the UK commercial real estate market. Having identified that following a major downturn in the UK stock market in the early 1990's, coupled with ever-rising sterling interest rates to new highs, plus the collapse of a number of major UK public listed real estate companies, there was an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire prime distressed real estate assets at a fraction of their previous values. Having identified, this hitherto virtually unnoticed opportunity, Bloomfield went on to acquire about $1.5 billion of assets on behalf of his exclusive private investors [HNWI]. Bloomfield also advised several German banks in developing their UK Real Estate lending operations, several of these major banks have since become established as leading funders of UK Real Estate.
From 1994, Bloomfield originated and developed with several of his existing investor group, a significant number of prominent properties in Prime Central London, particularly in the exclusive Mayfair area and also in Prime City and Covent Garden. The projects varied in size from $20M - $250M.
Following a meeting with leading members of Moscow City Government in 1993 who having heard of his well documented success in the London real estate downturn, invited Bloomfield to Moscow to see the opportunities that lay ahead. Bloomfield, again was one of the earliest pioneers when he correctly identified the enormous potential of what was to become one of the world's largest economic markets — Russia, and in particular, spent considerable time focusing on the enormous Real Estate opportunities, where he structured and created a number of highly significant relationships with specific individuals, who are currently the leading tycoons of Russian Real Estate.
Bloomfield, correctly identified a number of striking opportunities that he worked upon, including luxury hotels, gas stations and office and retail projects. He remains very actively involved in numerous business ventures to date in the Russian Federation/CIS.
In recent years Bloomfield's activities have extended to: Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian Republics, whilst also being involved in business in the Czech Rep and North America. Bloomfield is special adviser to a Newly created Multi $bn PE Fund based in Dubai which is part of Dubai Holdings and specializes in Eastern European Emerging Market economyies (multi sector).
Whilst Bloomfield's activities are primarily in Real Estate, his other active business interests include: Mining, Natural Resources, Oil & Gas, and Media. Bloomfield is extremely well-connected at the highest levels and prefers to maintain a low profile.
Bloomfield's activities are now carried out under the name of Rayfield Group which is based at 76 Brook Street, Mayfair, London W1K 5EE.
